ORGANIZATION OF THE iCARDIO ALLIANCE
ORGANIZATION OF THE iCARDIO GLOBAL
IMPLEMENTATION GUIDELINES

In 2021, the Translational Medicine Academy (TMA) decided to expand its mission to developing “Global Implementation Guidelines” as a complement to currently available international and national quality cardiology guidelines and focus on their implementation of best practices throughout the world. This project, within the framework of the iCARDIO Alliance, aims at filling the need for implementation-focused cascade documents, in particular for its members in low resource settings.
The iCARDIO Alliance is an umbrella association bringing together partners from the four corners of the world. These partners all have a vested interest in cardiovascular care and improving the implementation of best practices, no matter what the setting is.
The iCARDIO Alliance contributes to the development of the Global Implementation Guidelines under the leadership of the Guidelines Advisory Board (GAB). This partnership is administered by the Translational Medicine Academy (TMA), which is the reference for any organizational matters.
The GAB puts into place the Task Forces, which develop the individual guideline topics. These Task Forces are led by 2-3 Chairs from different continents and 4-5 Co-chairs forming the Task Force’s Executive Committee. Members of each Executive Committee will represent at least 4 continents. The writing teams (25 to 30 experts maximum, nominated by the GAB) are composed of no more than 50% of experts coming from Europe and North America.
FUNDING
Funding for the development of the Global Implementation Guidelines, and all other activities of the iCARDIO Alliance, comes from the proceeds of educational/scientific initiatives organized by TMA. This covers the costs of the dedicated TMA staff, the medical writer, the collaborative editorial platform and electronic tools such as the Declaration of Interests (DOI) management tool. No direct funding for the development of the Guidelines comes from industry. Chairs, Co-chairs, Task Force Members and Reviewers act as volunteers and are therefore not compensated for their work on the Documents. Travel expenses for Chairs, Co-chairs, Task Force Members and Reviewers, if there are any, are covered by TMA according to the TMA reimbursement policy.
